Remote sensing support to loss modeling in natural catastrophes

Study of various approaches and methods for integrating remote sensing products into loss estimation modelling. Specifically, how can remote sensing help:

  • calibrating or validating post-event loss estimates through specific observations of damage and no damage;
  • establishing building and lifeline exposure models through use of moderate and high-resolution imagery, including optical, SAR and Lidar;
  • quantifying post-event recovery rates from large disasters.

Exploration on how methods can be applied to a variety of natural disasters including earthquake, tsunami, flooding and hurricanes/typhoons.
